Fixing Bad Breath
If you’re concerned about bad breath, you’re not alone. Many people suffer from bad breath, or halitosis, for a variety of reasons. We can help you identify the cause and offer suggestions for improvement, or, if the bad breath is due to an oral condition, develop a treatment plan to combat it. Bad breath stems from a variety of causes, including eating pungent foods such as onions and garlic, using tobacco products, failing to brush and floss daily, or dry mouth, which occurs with a decrease in the flow of your saliva.
The Plan
By promoting dental hygiene, you can start to make bad breath better. As part of your initial exam, we’ll discuss your dental habits to identify areas of improvement. We’ll do a hygiene exam to diagnose the bacteria level in your mouth while assessing the state of the bone around your teeth, the condition of your tissues, and your general dental health. From there, we can treat any infections or elevated bacteria levels in the mouth in order to reduce halitosis. Since good oral habits are essential for prevention of bad breath, we’ll also offer proper techniques for brushing, flossing, and tongue-scraping.
Further Treatment
Bad breath can also be caused by a medical condition not directly related to your dental health. These include chronic sinusitis, chronic bronchitis, diabetes, or a liver or kidney disorder. If we suspect this is the case, we’ll refer you to your family doctor or a specialist.
We’re committed to developing a long-term relationship with you and to making sure your health remains as good as possible. If you’re concerned about bad breath, request an appointment today! Just use the form to the right and one of our friendly staff will contact you.
