Fixing Bad Breath

Bad breath stems from a variety of causes, including eating pungent food like onions and garlic, using tobacco products, failing to brush and floss daily, or dry mouth, which occurs with a decrease in saliva flow. We help identify the cause and offer suggestions for improvement, or, if the bad breath is due to an oral condition, develop a treatment plan to combat it.

The Plan

Good dental hygiene is the first step to fresher breath. We’ll do a hygiene exam to diagnose bacteria levels, assess bone quality around your teeth, condition of tissues, and your general dental health. From there, we can treat any infections or elevated bacteria levels to reduce halitosis. Since good oral habits are essential for prevention of bad breath, we’ll also offer proper techniques for brushing, flossing and tongue-scraping.

Further Treatment

Bad breath can also be caused by medical conditions not directly related to dental health, including chronic sinusitis, chronic bronchitis, diabetes, or a liver or kidney disorder. If we suspect this is the case, we’ll refer you to your family doctor or a specialist.

Our patients’ health is our most critical concern; we are committed to developing long-term relationships with individuals and families, and pay detailed attention to your preferences and needs.
